Fall 2016 Actuarial Candidate Networking Events

The SOA, CAS and other actuarial organizations host a number of events throughout the year that are tailored for actuarial students and candidates to learn more about the profession, network with actuaries and employers, and attend sessions focused on industry specific topics. Some also include career fairs with employers hiring actuarial interns or for full-time positions. Students typically must register in advance and spots can be limited. Below are some of the Candidate Connect and Student Networking coming up in the Fall of 2016.

SOA Candidate Connect Event – Hollywood, Florida
Date: August 29, 2016
Location: The Diplomat Resort & Spa, Hollywood, FL
An SOA Candidate Connect event for aspiring actuaries at 2016 Valuation Symposium, one of the SOA’s largest annual professional development meetings for actuaries. Pre-ASA candidates can gain exposure to industry topics and network with SOA members and fellow candidates.

CAS Casualty Loss Reserves Seminar – Rosemont, Illinois
Date: September 19, 2016
Location: The Diplomat Resort & Spa, Hollywood, FL
The CAS hosts a one-day student program at each of its five large annual conferences throughout the year, and members of Student Central are invited to participate at no cost! Actuarial Society of Greater New York (ASNY) 2016 Career Fair – New York, New York
Date: September 25, 2016
Location: Hotel Pennsylvania, New York, NY
College freshmen through graduate students are welcome as well as professionals interested in the actuarial field as a future career.  Mathematics, economics, computer, finance, business and of course — actuarial science — students, as well as professors and career counselors are encouraged to attend. All facets of the actuarial profession will be covered, including permanent and internship employment opportunities nationwide. Major insurance organizations and consulting firms will be represented. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with practicing actuaries, obtain literature and submit resumes.

Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) Annual International Conference – Columbus, Ohio
Dates: September 29 – October 1, 2016
Location: Columbus Convention Center
For college students who are members of their school’s GIS Chapter. GIS is an international business fraternity for students of insurance, risk management and actuarial science. The Conference is a comprehensive event for students to develop professionally and expand on their industry exposure and knowledge. The agenda includes a career fair, educational sessions and keynote addresses, in addition to leadership seminars and ample networking opportunities.  This year’s conference will serve to further the interaction between students, the insurance industry and GIS alumni.

Midwest Actuarial Student Conference – Chicago, Illinois
Dates: October 21-22, 2016
Location: DePaul University 
The Conference is for college students who are studying or are interested in learning more about Actuarial Science and will include several presentations pertaining to the field. It will also provide students with the opportunity to network with representatives from various companies and students from other colleges and universities. Meet the Sponsors event is on Friday night; conference is on Saturday.

SOA Candidate Connect Event – Las Vegas, Nevada
Date: October 24, 2016
Location: The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
This Candidate Connect event is geared towards aspiring Pre-Associate candidates at the 2016 SOA Annual Meeting & Exhibit, the SOA’s largest annual professional development meeting for actuaries.

SOA Candidate Connect Event – Hartford, Connecticut
Date: November 11, 2016
Location: Marriott Hartford Downtown, Hartford, CT
This event is geared towards Pre-Associate candidates. It will be a full-day program including informative sessions and networking opportunities. Learn about industry trends, topics and how you will apply your knowledge to real practice. Network with SOA leaders, members and fellow candidates.
