The CAS has decided to defer administering exams in the Technology-Based Examination (TBE) format after the spring 2018 administration of Exam 5 did not go as planned.
The decision to administer the exam in an Excel format reflected the real-world environment in which actuaries work and feedback from candidates, who generally preferred taking the exam in Excel.
CAS exams will continue to be given in the traditional paper-and-pencil format until a new TBE process has been identified, developed, and tested.
